Is This…Winter? by Helen Yoon ~ ISBN: 9781536226270 | Ages 3-7
My thoughts: A frisky puppy (or doggie) frolicking in the snow. He gets tangled in Christmas decorations that adorn the neighborhood. Few words. Sketchy, though cute illustrations.
Not a favorite, but still enjoyable though I could most certainly do without the bit of "butt" humor.
About the book: What’s with all the blinking lights? With her trademark visual humor and comic timing, Helen Yoon takes a look at some odd winter traditions.
High five! It’s winter! For one spirited little puppy, winter means romping in the snow, birds to chase, fragrant evergreen trees, and joy, joy, joy! Then again, winter also means . . . oddly unfriendly deer? Millions of little lights? Contorting inflatable snowmen? Wait, what? If this is all winter too, then winter is kind of . . . weird! Helen Yoon’s fresh and hilarious take on the winter season—part of a quirky new series of picture books—is a blend of bumbling affection and slack-jawed wonder. Secret word: Snow
Five Little Penguins by Lily Murray & illustrated by Holly Surplice ~ ISBN: 9781536232608 | Ages 2-5
My thoughts: Charming! Super cute illustrations. Cavorting animals and critters. Flaps to lift with surprises underneath of critters and also some more text.
Text of "story" is repetitive and simple. A nice twist is that the count is down 5 to 1 rather than usual up-count 1 to 5. Little ones will totally enjoy this cute book. I simply love the sweet rhyming verse.
About the book: Based on the nursery rhyme “Five Little Ducks,” this cheerful lift-the-flap book is perfect for sharing at Christmas.
Five little penguins went out one day, over the hills and far away . . .Mama Penguin said, “ Hurry back to me! ”Now how many penguins can you see?
Join five adorable penguins on a lift-the-flap walk through a winter wonderland. There’s so much to see as Mama Penguin and her chicks waddle through a frosty forest, skate down an icy river, and sled down snowy slopes. Along the way, they meet all kinds of festive animals playing in the snow. But wait—the chicks are disappearing one by one. Whatever could they be up to? Lift the flaps to find the chicks and discover a fantastic surprise ending.

Picked up a friend's groceries
ReplyDeleteHeather Swanson, that is so nice. My mother depended on others for rides to the grocery store after my father passed. And shut in folks are so hampered when it comes to getting things they need from the grocer or drug store. Keep up the good work!
