This is a land much disputed over religion and politics. The author has presented simply an introductory look at the land and culture briefly touching on the several religions that call the land "home."
Names for boys and girls, what you would call your mother or father, sports that are favorites and the word used for school are covered in a storytelling style. A visit to the market (an outdoor market) and celebration of a major holiday are fleshed out in an appealing manner helping the young reader to glimpse into the world of a child in Israel.
As is definitely appropriate, the strife, discord, war and terror that are a major daily occurrence in this middle eastern land are not addressed in this work for young children. This is an introduction to culture and not a treatise on the land with its many facets politically or religiously.

I recommend this series for homeschooling families and classroom libraries.

Israel is the current apartheid state, denying Palestinians their human rights on a daily basis. Check out Jewish Voice for Peace for the current situation where Israeli snipers target unarmed protesters with live bullets. Most recently a female paramedic was shot and killed during protests.
