"Did you ever read (or study in school) The Story of Odysseus? If so, what was your 'take away'?" I first read it when I was about 10 because I had an old 1960s Penguin paperback of Homer's "Odysseus." While there might be some unfamiliar vocabulary, it's basically very accessible for any intelligent 10- or 11-year-old. That being said, there are several elements, at least, which would make a lot of parents say that the original story by Homer is very non-family-friendly, in ways that I won't describe!
