There are books on Beauty and the Beast that facilitate enjoyment on various levels. And today we're looking at a beautifully drawn coloring book from Silver Dolphin Books that has quotes from the original story.
This is a quality product that older children, teens, and adults will enjoy coloring with highly detailed drawings that will fascinate and draw out the creative spark in the most avid "colorers." The designs are quite intricate and very pretty reminiscent of Walter Crane's art. Coloration will require very fine points and care to be done well.
About the book: This enchanting coloring book is full of wonderful pictures, patterns, and borders to be colored in, as budding artists immerse themselves in the story of Beauty, who goes to live with the terrifying Beast in order to save her father…and then gradually learns to love him. All the key scenes and characters are here to color in as you relive this most romantic of fairy tales.

There was a documentary by the Smithsonian about a man with hypertrichosis who may have been the inspiration for the Beauty and the Beast story. Its interesting to see how people did (and still do) treat people who are different. Even well meaning people who are simply trying to "understand" can become invasive with too many questions or insensitive questions. The documentary explains how the "beast" was treated as subhuman because of the way he looks. Unfortunately, we still treat people as subhuman because of something about them that we find unfamiliar or frightening.
ReplyDeleteOn another level, I think everyone at some time or another has felt alienated and alone and wished that someone would just "get them".
And, on an even shallower level, people just like fairy tales, happy endings, and the beauty, wealth, and glamour.
I like the extensive safety tests that Silver Dolphin does on their products.
ReplyDeleteI think the story teaches that there are horrible things out there and you need to find a rich husband, and both of those lessons are very valuable. I doubt it teaches to value inner beauty, because that's, like, the opposite lesson of the story.
ReplyDeleteThe Web site has a fun clay charms kit!
I really like all the colors of the books and the large variety by the Silver Dolphin Books.
ReplyDeleteI like the clay crafts.

"Beauty and the Beast" teaches that you can help people to give up the bitterness and accept the circumstances.

I always just looked at it as a fairy tale with a happy ending. I think if I go back and study it now it would have different meaning... I just loved the fantasy of the story.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I find that human nature hasn't changed in all these years. That most of us still judge a book by its cover and not what's inside! We still are a somewhat shallow society! I love this story! We can and should change the things we can! And accept the things we can't and learn to love it! The ending can be a happy fantasy 😋
ReplyDeleteI learned that Silver Dolphin Books have been around for nearly 20 years & they focus on preschoolers to 12 years olds with nonfiction, award winning books!
