My thoughts: It is always a joy and delight to be able to help young children come to a knowledge that all of Creation was made by God and that each creature does what it does simply because it was designed that way by God the Creator. When it can be taught in an entertaining and educational way that is within the levels that will capture the imagination of the young child, it is a true prize indeed.
Would A Worm Go On A Walk? is just such a prize. Written by Hannah C. Hall in good rhyme that flows beautifully and illustrated in such a joyful and delightful way by Bill Bolton, the book will entertain with quirky critters and questions about them - kind of nonsense stuff. We all know worms don't have feet to walk, but to ask the question "Would a worm go on a walk?" tickles that nonsensical funny bone we all have.
Ending with a strong finish that declares that "God's masterpiece Is YOU!" ("God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." --Genesis 1:31a)
They look just as he wanted,
and they act just as they should.
He made them and he loves them,
and he calls them very good.
But God's designs weren't finished.
His special plans weren't through.
The ANIMALS were just a start.
God's masterpiece is YOU!

Illustrations make a big difference....I'm not likely to buy a picture book with pictures I don't like.
ReplyDeleteI love the drawings in the new book Old MacDonald Had a Truck!
I believe that we are all here for a reason, even the negative parts
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations in both of these cute books is really good, I know that my grandson would enjoy me reading and looking at the pictures with me.
ReplyDeleteI think illustration makes kids more keen on a book by the bright colors.
ReplyDeleteThe books that stand out to me are Dr.Seus books because of the colors and images of the illustration.
Yes, I've definitely considered that each creature on God's Earth does what it is made to do. I believe that each one of us is here for a reason, whether that be a person or a critter. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the illustrations play the main role in children's books. Growing up, I enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar book, mainly due to the illustrations.
ReplyDeleteI learned that Hannah graduated from college with a degree in Broadcasting. I also learned that she is now a wife of a worship pastor and a homemaker.
ReplyDeleteI learned she has a degree in Broadcasting and her first book was God Bless You and Good Night,
ReplyDeleteI think illustrations draw you into the book and the words are what capture you so they are both equally important.
ReplyDeleteI think this world we live in and all things great and small are amazing. God is great!
ReplyDeleteI think the illustrations make a large part of a picture book because that's often what a kid notices first. If the writer/illustrator are the same person, awesome. If not, they have to work well together, I'd imagine.
ReplyDeleteI also loved Eric Carle's illustrations!

On illustrators, I think they play a big part in children's books. Kids love pictures. They like colors and fun drawings. Often a picture in a book will hold their attention for a long time. It might be as simple as a dog wearing a dress in a small corner of the page or as big as a bright green T-Rex taking up the whole page.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe that all the creatures play an important role and do what they are supposed to. Big or small, we all have a part and work together. From the circle of life to every thing living together, we are all important.
ReplyDeleteShe turns to God in her hardest times. Her hardest job is being a mom, and while often she feels she fails, her mission is to please God. Her blog speaks all about trusting God.
ReplyDeleteWonderful... it is always a good thing when such books bring Truth into our kids minds. Thanks for sharing with #TheCozyReadingSpot
ReplyDeleteYes, each one of God's creatures has it own place and job!

Lovely, lively, colorful illustrations!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely thought that every creature does just what God made it to do. I think illustrations are super important for conveying the theme of a book and they do as much work telling the story as the words do, if not more sometimes. Eloise Wilkins is the illustrator I most remember from my childhood. I loved and still love the way she draws children.

Illustrations can play a huge role, even sometimes in Chapter books. The Ordinary Princess has gorgeous illustrations, and really helped me picture the Story. Junie B. Jones...another chapter books that is really brought out by the illustrations. And for picture books, I always loved the illustrations in the Serendipity Books...they were just gorgeous, and even in High School I was still copying some of them for art projects.

ReplyDeleteYes, I have considered that each creature does what it was made to do. This used to give me pause as I wondered why predators needed things they have when there was no death or killing in the garden of Eden (or so the Bible seems to suggest), but I now think that actually there was God directed rapid Evolution/Adaption after the fall...just as the curse changed snakes the affects of sin changed other creatures too.
