Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment! She doesn't want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won't participate in any of the events or join in with her friends. Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that:
'Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!'
My thoughts: Willow and Marvin were the first two kids in the Shine Bright Kids stories learning lessons in life and behavior. Now we're meeting Wanda. Whatever Wanda has a poor attitude and graces everyone with her "whatever," uncooperative attitude.
When presented the opportunity to engage in a day of fun activities with her family and the whole community, she doesn't want to do so and makes her disgruntled attitude known. As the day progresses, she begins to realize that her friends, Willow and Marvin (remember they are Shine Bright Kids, too), are having so much fun.
Then Whatever Wander" yields to an attitude adjustment. Good job. Now she can have some fun with the others. A sweet, well-written story that teaches children valuable lessons. The illustrations are charming and give such pleasure to the reader (and listener). Love these Shine Bright Kids books.

An attitude adjustment might be that we are all created equal and no one is better than the other. I see that a lot when the kids are dealing with competitive events.

ReplyDeleteJust because you want something doesn't mean that you're entitled to it. Sometimes you don't get what you want and other times you may get what you want but you have to earn it.
ReplyDeleteI visited both of the webpages you mentioned and I really love this illustration style. And the fact that the books contain really solid Christian lessons is even better! This book in particular interests me because an almost daily refrain for me right now is that there will be many things my kids have no choice about doing (like the dishes) but that they always can choose their attitude while doing it. This book would be such a great addition to what we are (hopefully) learning right now! Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday!

ReplyDeleteThis may not be the attitude adjustment story that you are looking for but one of my daughters has a friend who has parents that buy everything and she talks about all of these toys that she has. Now my daughter has started to copy her and wants everything even if it is not cuddly or has limited play quality, etc. I try to explain about value but she keeps coming back.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see a page inside of the 5 minute Bible Devotions for Children, otherwise, it is the type of book that we have been looking for. I also like Monarch Magic because it is butterfly season.
