Today we're looking at Carole P. Roman's latest two books in the series, Peru and Greece.
Greece
In If You Were Me and Lived in...Greece, early learners get a taste of what their life would be like if they lived in Greece while being introduced to the birthplace of democracy. This exciting visit to Greece also introduces the important concept of democracy to children and highlights some of the other cultural contributions that Greece has made to Western civilization.
There are illustrations depicting current life and part of the history of Greece. As in the other books in the series, the reader will learn what he would call his mother and father and his grandparents. What the name of money for that country is and the name of a toy they might purchase for themselves. Holidays and school are touched on. In the back of the book, there are words with pronunciation guides that aid in understanding.
Peru
In If You Were Me and Lived in Peru, you discover South America and gain a colorful glimpse into what living in Peru is like. Highlighting a myriad of topics, including language, cuisine, climate, and history, this book teaches kids about diversity while also revealing to them the important truth that we are all connected.I like that the author has touched on the history of the Inca in Peru and the ancient city built on a mountain. Also, that the potato is indigenous to Peru and a staple in their diet.
The books "Greece" and "Peru" follow the stylized pattern that Roman has established for this series. To date she has published books on the following: South Korea, France, Norway, Kenya, Turkey, India, Australia, Russia, Portugal, Greece, and Peru.

ReplyDeleteTo answer the question, I would choose Greece with it's amazing history!
DeleteI find Russia fascinating. It's such a mix of Europe and Asia. Their history is rich and somewhat mysterious. And the architecture is so distinct. I'd love to go there someday!
ReplyDeleteI would choose Finland since that was where my grandma was from
ReplyDeleteI have never visited Greece or Peru, but I have heard that they are beautiful places! I did visit Ecuador, which is on Peru's border, the people are very nice and the food is great too!!! I also have a friend whose Dad is from Peru, so I have also heard a great deal about Peru as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go back to Costa Rica, I would love to go back, I went on a mission trip with my church, and we stayed in the sort of tree house in the middle of the rainforest! This is an awesome place to visit and an interesting place to learn about! We went to help with reforestation, or re-branding trees on the mountainsides, because they had cut them down to make money but then realized that they were much needed to keep the water on the mountains! People do not realize the damage they do until it is too late, so much of the time! We need to learn to treasure natural resources and guard them so that future generations will be able to enjoy things we sometimes take for granted! I would love her to write a book on Costa Rica or Central America! Thanks for the opportunity to win! God Bless and Good Luck to Everyone! I would be so honored to win! Have a wonderful, blessed day!
