Then the fun begins. Out pops a skateboard and three more bears. Amidst skateboarding, scarf flinging, and fun the three newcomers are welcomed to share the abandoned factory with Hooligan and Louie.
So you see, Hooligan and Louis have new friends and new escapades and new housemates. But you must meet the new friends, too. They are Scooter, Waldo, and Lenny.
Again the adorable illustrations by Andrea Dietrich capture the loveable, rascally spirit of the bears. The muted primary colors and whimsical drawings will engage the youngest child and make children out of every reader no matter what their age for the sheer delight the story brings.
What will the child learn from this book? Friendship. Sharing. Enjoying simple things. Caring for others. I highly recommend the book for homes and libraries.

My granddaughters love to sleep with a teddy bear each night - they are soft & cuddly & comforting to them.
ReplyDeleteI was insecure as a child & carried a teddy bear around until I was almost a teenager, & the bear was no more than a piece of cloth. There are stories of family members searching, numerous times, for my lost teddy bear. I have a fondness for all bears - to this day - & once had a chow puppy because I thought he looked like a bear.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your review with the Kid Lit Blog Hop! This looks like a great book.
ReplyDeleteGreat underlying message and those illustrations are so sweet. Thanks for sharing in the Kid Lit Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteI have a very special bear that has been with me since I was a pup. I used to carry it with me everywhere. My bear looks a lot like that Waldo bear. These Hooligan bears look like a fun bunch!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a bear as a child, but I had a very special rabbit. And boy was he tattered & torn by the end of my "security needing" days. A neighborhood dog once took it out of my hands & ran off with it & I remember the rest of my family frantically chasing that dog down & bringing my rabbit back home!
ReplyDeleteI WOULD love to win for my daughter who just turned 5. I have never been a teddy bear girl but my daughter really is. She loves them as if they were real pets. it is really fun to watch her get creative with them.
ReplyDeleteMy 5 year old grandson would enjoy this book!

I received 3 books in the Hooligan Bear series including this one. Really nicely written book and fantastic for cuddling up in bed with your little bear and daughter as a nighttime read. Well illustrated, not too long or too many words and the set of books would make a nice gift
ReplyDeleteI found particular comfort in several of my stuffed friends when my family went through a really tough time when I was five. I still have some of those friends - they've been through so much with me! I'm sharing this on my facebook page as well as on Twitter and G+. Thanks for linking up with Booknificent Thursday! Hope to see you again soon.

My son's name is Ty. When he was little he was given a "Ty" brand teddy bear, before the Ty Beanie Babies became famous. Ty got sick and had to have surgery, he loved his bear and got to take it into surgery wit him.
ReplyDeleteBefore I immigrated to the US, my grandmother gave me a cute German Teddy bear. This bear was a famous German brand of bear. At the time of our immigration, we could take little with us. I had several pictures of myself as a child in Germany with this little Teddy. The bear stayed in Germany and apparently a cousin got my bear. My first trip back to Germany, many years later, I found the bear again. Asking my relative if I could have my long-lost bear, I was told no because it meant so much to my cousin as a reminder of "his" grandmother. I was so sad... :(
ReplyDeleteSonja - So sorry your Teddy Bear story is a sad one. But hopefully you were able to have another nice Teddy Bear to snuggle and love.
DeleteI still have my Winnie the Pooh bear from when I was a baby! He lost his shirt, but my mom made a new one out of red felt.
ReplyDeleteEric - I repaired many a stuffed animal and made shirts, dresses, and pants for them. Also repaired the dolls an stuffed animal clothes - patches, et al. My children loved their toys and we had a Winnie the Pooh, too, as well as a slew of "Snuggle fabric softener" bears.
DeleteThe illustrations are darling. Don't know a child who doesn't like teddy bears. Thanks for sharing on the Kid Lit Blog Hop. Cheryl, Hop Hostess
ReplyDeleteI had a doll as a child that was my best friend. But I have seen that teddy bears offer a sense of comfort to children in many ways to include crisis they are a wonderful thing in so many ways.

ReplyDeleteMy son's favorite "woobie" was a pink Care Bear...I took a lot of ribbing because he had chosen a pink bear with hearts on it's belly to carry with him everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIn an attempt to make him more boy friendly my husband named him "Sir Love-a-lot"...lol
When my daughter was about 6, "Santa" forgot to put her Teddy Bear under the Christmas tree. I realized this and put it in her bedroom for her to find later that morning. To this day, "I'll never forget Santa putting my Teddy Bear on my bed!" (even though she knows it was me...it's still fun to hear her tell it!)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a super fun series. the characters in the art work seem warm and inviting. I think DD will really enjoy this series. thanks for sharing on Kid Lit Blog Hop!
