No, I never did play pirates that I can remember. I didn't live near water. I played Tarzan/Jane or Swiss Family Robinson... I lived near the woods. :)

No I have never been there, but I have been sick and blue at times and look out the window and wonder what, why, neat poem. thank you - here it is..
ReplyDeleteThe Land of Counterpane-
When I was sick and lay a-bed,
I had two pillows at my head,
And all my toys beside me lay,
To keep me happy all the day.
And sometimes for an hour or so
I watched my leaden soldiers go,
With different uniforms and drills,
Among the bed-clothes, through the hills;
And sometimes sent my ships in fleets
All up and down among the sheets;
Or brought my trees and houses out,
And planted cities all about.
I was the giant great and still
That sits upon the pillow-hill,
And sees before him, dale and plain,
The pleasant land of counterpane.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Dorothy - Thank you so much for taking the time to include the poem in your comments. Don't you just love Robert Louis Stevenson's poems? I recall a children's "Golden Book" titled "A Child's Garden of Verse" and it had this in it. I also had an old set of The Book of Knowledge that I grew up with and I read to my children from it. Lots of excellent, classic literature and poetry in them.
DeleteMy brothers played pirates, I have 5 granddaughters who have played pirates they have a very vivid imagination, I had som old plastic swords left from their daddies and next thing Iknow they were playing Peter Pan. funny
ReplyDeleteNo; I never sailed to the land of Counterpane. I was kind of fascinated by the "Lord of the Flies"; although they were shipwreck victims and not pirates lol! :-) My son used to like watching "Jake and the Neverland Pirates", but he's more into "Little Einsteins" now. Can't ever remember playing "Pirates" with my brother, only "cops and robbers" and "cowboys and Indians" lol! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have never sailed to the land of Counterpane! Thanks for the fun giveaway. :)
ReplyDeleteNo, lol, I've never sailed to the land of Counterpane. Thank you for the chance to win this book for my grandson.

I can't remember ever playing pirates - but am sure my grandchild & nieces & nephews have, due to the popularity of the movies about them.
