My thoughts: This is a cute book that in rhyme goes through the life of a loaf of bread. Combining simple line drawings with a touch of watercolors with the rhyming text the story ambles through the day from when the baker first mixes the dough to when the last crumb is used. No crumb goes wasted and the life of a loaf of bread is a happy life providing substance for many. There is a touch of counting and you can use the book to identify foods.
This is the tale. I'll tell it nowThe book is good though not outstanding. I love rhyming stories for children so that is a plus for this book. The pictures are simple and happy and a child can easily relate to them. The story is one that would appeal to families - especially if they bake their own bread.
No need to ask me twice
It's full of fun and flavor
And I'll tell it . . . slice by slice.
I think this is a good book to add to a library for public and school libraries.

Favorite sandwich is fresh from the garden tomato sliced with thin sliced cheddar on whole grain bread. Sprinkle a little salt and a light dash of mayonnaise.
ReplyDeleteI like Maisy's Fairground since we have been going to fairs recently
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sandwich is egg salad on wheat bread. Joe makes the BEST egg salad. :)
ReplyDeleteI like liverwurst on marble rye with mustard - sometimes I add potato chips to it.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read Joe and Sparky go to school.
ReplyDeleteI like a grilled cheese sandwich on sliced French bread
ReplyDeleteI would like the book Maisy's Fairground
ReplyDeleteBink & Gollie - I think my granddaughters would enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sandwich is peanut butter & tomato on toast. I toast my honey wheat bread & I like mine about medium dark. Spread peanut butter on both sides, then add sliced tomatoes, put the pieces together & cut it in half. Simple & delicious!
ReplyDeleteI would also love to have ABOVE WORLD for my grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite sandwich is a cheese and tomato sandwich. Generally I use a 9-grain loaf or potato bread for the sandwich, plum tomatoes [if not whatever tomatoes I can find], and an extra sharp white cheddar, preferably Australian, Irish or English. Nothing else but a yellow mustard on one side, and a brown mustard on the other.
ReplyDeleteI'd also love to have "I Want My Hat Back". Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sandwich is a BLT. I LOVE tomatos... the more the merrier--YUM! So, I use whole wheat bread, a little mayo on both slices (and I do mean LITTLE mayo)... then a good sized piece of lettuce half a tomato or so and three or four pieces of bacon. YUM!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks good to me:
ReplyDeleteBeyond Courage (Hard Cover)
author: Doreen Rappaport
In a stirring chronicle, Doreen Rappaport brings to light the courage of countless Jews who organized to sabotage the Nazis and help other Jews during the Holocaust.

Ladette - "Beyond Courage" does sound fascinating. It is so difficult to imagine or comprehend what happened to the Jews and others who either helped them or were just "different" under the hands of the Nazis.
DeleteI'd also like The Golden Day. My favorite sandwich is a good ole tomato sandwich made with fresh bread, kraft mayo and a little salt and pepper (oh the tomato has to be homegrown!)
ReplyDeleteRae, I'm with you on that summer time sandwich. I do love to stack a good turkey sandwich with lots of crisp onion, pickle, greens though. :)
DeleteI love a crusty baguette with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and gherkin :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to read Black Dog by Levi Pinfold.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the Kid LIt Blog Hop to say hello. This looks like a good book but a bit young for my advanced reader. However, I do love bread of all kinds!
ReplyDeleteA bit simple for me....Daves Killer bread is fantastic in whole grains, fiber & protein...I always use a variety of that, a lil pastrami, kale, tomato, & avocado....Fitness plays a huge part in the lack of condiments.lol
ReplyDeleteHooray for Bread! Who doesn't like the smell of freshly baked bread? I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! Looks like a cute story.
ReplyDeleteNo Rafflecopter form came up.
ReplyDeleteHi LAWonder, it looks and works find right now. Once in awhile something like that happens. You can usually click the link takes the place of Rafflecopter and go to the entry form and proceed. Granted, that's not a good way to go, but it can work. Sometimes it rights itself, and others I have to reinsert it (it doesn't lose any entries). Hope you'll try again.
DeleteHard to find a good rhyming book for kids. Thanks for sharing on the Kid Lit Blog Hop. Cheryl, Hop Hostess
