About the book: Flippity flop and splash your way through this colorful trip to the lake.
Jump in with your senses and play with rhymes as you experience the
waves, the boats, and the many animals. This cheery book follows three
children as they enjoy the simple pleasures and rare glimpses that
nature offers us around the lake. A Day at the Lake is told using all five senses, and teaches children vowels and sound effects.
My thoughts: From the front cover, on each page, and ending with the back cover this cheerful, bright, engaging books is delightful. I can almost feel the children's joy and excitement in the pictures detailing their fun and activities and discoveries when they spend A Day At The Lake.
It is a shame that this book is not printed in a hardcover version so that it will better endure the repeated reading, page turning, hugging (yes books are hugged by our little ones) that it will surely be experiencing. But since it is not, we'll just enjoy it anyway!
On the two-page spreads, there is a short two liner that says what that page/picture is about. Then it is followed by some "way out" words that will tickle your tongue, your heart, and make your kiddies giggle.
Hear the soft waves hit the boat like a drum.
Lappity rap, Sloshily slap
In the picture for this page, the three children (so young, so innocent, so pure) and their doggie are peering over the edge of the boat as the little waves "Sloshily slap."Lappity rap, Sloshily slap
If you and your little ones go to the lake or beach, you'll want to watch for this book or perhaps order it online. It will be a joy.

When my daughters were about 18 months we took them to a beach party thrown by my high school friend. She brought kites for all of the kids and the older kids had their kites very high in the air. The kites were what they enjoyed most even though we did spend some time splashing in the water and climbing around the tide pool
ReplyDeleteNice thing to say - I love Chat With Vera. I have won two great children's books from this site plus I get great recommendations for other books that I have purchased. This is the best site to find Christian children's book recommendations.
ReplyDeleteHow very kind of you say this, Emi. I raised 5 children of my own and we have 13 grand children. I've read and picked out quite a few children's books. Also, I helped to establish a Christian school's library years ago when my children were small.
DeleteI grew up going to lakes every summer day. It's where I learned to swim. I talk about going to the "beach" the lake as others talk about going to the ocean. pczajak.
ReplyDeleteWe love to visit Canandaigua Lake - we can swim if it's warm enough, hike along the shore and see the ducks and geese.

I like the daffodils on your blog Vera - they are my favorite flower & make me smile every time I see them. I can't wait for my daffoldils to blossom here in upstate NY.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa. I like the daffodils, too and they are favorites of mine. Some of my readers know that these are actual flowers that are in my front yard. They are heirloom bulbs that belonged to my mother-in-law and I transplanted from her home in Wilmington, NC to my home in Chapel Hill, NC over 50 years ago. They have had another move when we moved to our present location 9 years ago. I treasure them and they bring joy to me each year when they bloom. That is another reason it pleases me so very much when my readers also enjoy the picture of them.
DeleteThe first time we ever escaped our long cold winters was to visit some friends in Florida. Just sitting at the beach, looking at the water going out to the horizon, feeling the warm sun and enjoying the colors made for a wonderful memory for the whole family.
ReplyDeleteVera seems to be a very nice lady. I like her blogs. I love my family. The kids, grands, and greats all make me very happy. They are all great. Maxie Anderson mac262(at)me(dot0com
ReplyDeleteOh, Anonymous, I wish I could a name and face to your kind remarks. But I'm happy with anyone - even "anonymous" speaking nicely of me. I do try to be kind and loving. :)
DeleteI live in Lake County and we live half a mile from a lake, 2 hours from the beach. We enjoy beach days often!! momlovesdeals at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteWe took our son to Golden Gardens beach this past summer, and had a blast! We would have stayed longer, except he slipped and fell and scratched his ENTIRE leg up on a bunch of barnacles... but it was still an amazing advenure!
ReplyDeleteOh I know about barnacles, too! I grew up on the North Carolina coast and we KNEW to stay clear of the barnacles on rocks, piers, and bottoms/sides of boats. I also recall seeing the lifeguards saving a woman who got up against the pier's supports and couldn't get loose. When they brought her to shore, she was a bloody mess. I have been cut by them a little, but little is enough. Glad you still had an amazing adventure, though.
DeleteWe are in AZ and my favorite memory is taking my then 1 year old to Mexico to the beach. Its not safe enough to do that anymore...I miss visiting the mx beaches. I have great pics of her eating sand over and over :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to say something nice about my wife....she is the best mom to our kids. What a nice rafflecopter entry by the way....I am new to your blog but like th epositive things I have seen so far
ReplyDeleteDave, thank you for "bragging on your wife." Wives and Moms need that boost to their lives and to publicly say something good and positive about your wife is priceless! Now make sure she reads it! :)
DeleteAlso, glad you found "Chat With Vera." Do come again and have a cup of coffee or tea while you visit.

We used to spend a lot of time at the lake here in Green Bay. We'd go on Grandpa's boat. The kids loved it! Unfortunately, Grandpa died in 2003 so we don't go much anymore.
ReplyDeleteHi Vera,
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to read this book! As a teacher, I love to get new books...and old books too. Thanks for the chance to win!
